Mom, educator,
and radio producer Kwasida
Williams observed the lack of children’s
radio programs and educational media that shared her childhood love for traditional African and
culturally inspired stories. She wanted to provide a space and place for children to
create and
listen to stories, poems and music.
After teaching children in elementary and high school, she witnessed students
who
faced many writing challenges. In efforts to reduce this challenge, Kwasida
began
giving her students many opportunities to record and write about their personal
experiences. She quickly observed that when given the chance to hear their
stories
come alive through audio, students were more confident and excited about
writing.
Kwasida created a radio program designed to help her children and others
to learn
about history, morals and other’s cultures through storytelling.
